A World of Injustice

“Fern was up at daylight, trying to rid the world of injustice. As a result, she now has a pig. A small one to be sure, but nevertheless a pig. It just shows what can happen if a person gets out of bed promptly.”
― E.B. White, Charlotte's Web

Sometimes my Audrey reminds me so much of Fern! Lately she loves to ride along with her daddy as he goes to check on the cows/calves, and she takes a little notebook with her. Why? Because as they are working, she will occasionally name one or two and she writes the names and corresponding ear tag number in her book.

Today, we had an injustice of the world. The kind that E.B. White was writing about in Charlotte's Web. We've got a tiny new calf sick with pneumonia. Our recent ice storm and frigid temps didn't help. Audrey asked why her older cousin and uncle were here this afternoon and when I told her that a calf was sick her response was "Oh no! I have to go see it! What if it's Lambie?" Yes... she named a calf Lambie.

It's not Lambie. Thank goodness.

But it's an injustice just the same for the (not for very long I'm sure) unnamed calf. :(
